Lost and Missing cattle troughs

In December 1887 a 9ft 6in trough [1163] was erected in Bessborough Gardens opposite the church. The gift of P. Welstead.

On 7 November 1919 a 9ft 6in trough [2103] was erected in Eaton Square.

On 3 December 1920 a 9ft 6in trough [2133] was erected in Eaton Square (between Lower Belgrave Street and Eccleston Street).

On 5 May 1925 a 9ft 6in trough [2269] was erected near Ebury Bridge with the inscription “Herbert Arthur Stephenson 1924”.

In July 1887 a 9ft 6in trough [1142] was erected on the north side of The Embankment close to Cleopatra’s Needle. The gift of Mrs Walter Browne.

In March 1882 a 6ft 6in trough [0827] was erected at the corner of Victoria Street and Francis Street. This trough was donated by by Mrs. Graver-Fawley Hugh.

In March 1891 a 9ft 6in trough [1257] was erected in Horseferry Road opposite the Wesleyan chapel. The gift of John Noble.

In December 1889 a 9ft 6in trough [1232] was erected on Horse Guards Avenue near Northumberland Avenue. The gift of Mrs Mortimore.

In November 1878 an 18ft trough [0200] was erected on Knightsbridge, close to Hyde Park Corner. The gift of Mrs. George Robinson. It was removed to a site further west opposite Alexandra Hotel April-1934.

On 6 June 1918 a 9ft 6in trough [2091] was erected in Kensington Road opposite Hyde Park Gate. Erected out of money left from the erection of 3 troughs by the late Lewis David Benjamin. Inscription: “Be kind and merciful to all animals in memory of Esther Benjamin 1824 – 1879”.

On 19 October 1908 a 9ft 6in trough [1771] was erected on Park Lane. This was a special "Park Lane" design trough. Erected in memory of Algernon Henry Grosvenor by his friends for Hon. Mrs. Grosvenor. The only other "Park Lane" design trough is in Penzance.

In April 1905 a 9ft 6in trough [1666] was erected on The Strand by Gladstone statue. This trough was made of red granite with the inscription: “The gift of Mrs. Hausler as a memorial to her husband the late Captain Hausler”.

On 12 August 1914 a "special" trough and fountain [1997] was erected on The Strand by Mary-le-Grand church. Erected by the Right Hon Lord Leigh.

On 16 July 1933 a 6ft 6in trough [2576] was erected at the Falcon end of Fernhead Road by St. Lukes school, Paddington.

In December 1880 a 9ft 6in trough [0748] was erected in the Great Western Road beside wall of railway yard. The gift of Mrs. Pandar Dandan Lindan. This trough survived until at least the 1990's.

In March 1881 an 18ft trough [0756] was erected at Marble Arch, close to Bayswater Road. The gift of Mr. John Noble.

In May 1881 an 18ft trough [0888] was erected on Westbourne Bridge opposite Blomfield Crescent.

On 28 October 1920 a 9ft 6in trough [2130] was erected on Bayswater Road near Queens Road. This trough may have been removed in 1936.

In August 1882 a 9ft 6in trough [0868] was erected at the junction of Edgware Road and Aberdeen Place. The gift of Mrs. Girdin.

In September 1876 an 18ft trough [0347] was erected in Grove Road, St. John’s Wood Road outside Lord’s Cricket ground. The gift of Mrs. Girdin. This trough may have been moved to Edbrooke Road Gardens together with this trough in June 1980.

In March 1877 a 9ft 6in trough [0350] was erected in Wellington Place, St. Johns Wood. The gift of Mrs. Girdin as a memorial to Mrs. R.Chambers.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to 19 Belgrave Place, S.W.1.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to 24A Groom Place, S.W.1.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to 11 Marylebone Mews, W.1.
