Lost and Missing cattle troughs

On 11 December 1911 a 6ft 6in trough [1885] was erected in Battle High Street near the market. The gift of Mr and Mrs Braybrooke.

In January 1888 a 6ft 6in trough [1165] was erected in Brighton at Marlborough Place. The gift of Miss J.E. Gordon.

In December 1881 a 6ft 6in trough [0799] was erected in Brighton in Sussex Square. The gift of Mr. Samuel Gurney.

In November 1880 a 6ft 6in trough [0764] was erected in Brighton near a fountain in the wall of the workhouse. The gift of Mrs. Soames.

In 25 July 1911 a 6ft donkey trough [1868] was erected in Burgess Hill at the lower end of Burgess Hill.

In Nov-1881 a 9ft 6in trough [0800] was erected in Eastbourne in St. James Road outside the “Rising Sun” coffee palace. The gift of Mrs. Hall and others.

In 1885 a 9ft 6in trough [1037] was erected in Eastbourne at Old Orchard Road.

In 1887 a 9ft 6in trough [1129] was erected in Eastbourne near the Wish Tower.

In 1887 a 9ft 6in trough [1126] was erected in Eastbourne at The Meads.

In May 1902 a 6ft 6in trough [1532] was erected in Hastings at Breeds Place near the Lifeboat Station.

On 31 July 1908 a 6ft 6in trough [1768] was erected in Hastings at the junction of Magdalene & Bohemia Roads.

In 30 June 1914 a 9ft 6in trough [1933] was erected in Hastings at the eastern end of Marina Gardens, St. Leonards-on-sea.

A trough [1898] was erected in Alexandra Park, Hastings.

On 24 August 1927 a 9ft 6in trough [1732] was erected in Hastings, Warrior Square.

In June-1887 a 6ft 6in trough [1139] was erected in Hove near Trinity Church. The gift of Mrs Harries.

In 1-Jul-1915 a 6ft 6in trough [2011] was erected in Hove at Western Lawns. The gift of Lady George Nevill.

In June 1878 a special design 78 trough [0732] was erected in Hurstpierpoint near the church. The gift of Mrs. Holman as a memorial to her father.

In December 1887 a 6ft 6in trough [1191] was erected in Lewes in London Road.

In May 1888 a 6ft 6in trough [1192] was erected in Lewes on White Hill.

In October 1891 a 6ft 6in trough [1271] was erected in Lewes on Southover Hill Street.

On 17 November 1924 a 6ft 6in trough [2249] was erected in Newhaven.

On 27 October 1913 a 6ft 6in trough [1973] was erected in Dane Road, Seaford, opposite the junction with Richmond Road.

In June 1896 a 6ft 6in trough [1359] was erected in Worthing near the railway station.

In May 1876 a special structure consisting of a fountain, 2 cattle troughs and 2 sheep troughs [0356] was erected in Worthing, in front of the Town Hall. The gift of Mrs. Brandreth. According to a broadcast by Ray Gosling in 1977 the drinking fountain was removed from South Street and turned up in Hill Barn Quarry.

There may have been a trough in Brighton on Ellen Street inscribed "A merciful man is merciful to his beast".

There may have been a trough somewhere in the Weald inland from Hastings.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to Edgehill, Wadhurst, Sussex.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to Tablehurst Farm, Forest Row, Sussex.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to a beauty spot somewhere on the South Downs approx. 4 miles outside Brighton.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to the stables owned by G.C.H.Matthey of 49 Palmeira Avenue, Hove.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to somewhere near the Seven Sisters, Birling Gap, Eastbourne.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to the Society for the Preservation of Lindfield, 47 West Common, Haywards Heath.

An MDFCTA trough may have been moved to the RSPCA Centre, Sweethaws Lodge, Crowborough.
