The Metropolitan Drinking Fountain & Cattle Trough Association was establised during the reign of Queen Victoria so it's not surprising that many troughs and fountains were erected to commemorate her golden jubilee (1887), diamond jubilee (1897) and death (1901). In addition, in 1877 Queen Victoria herself paid £100 for a fountain and trough for the town of Esher, Surrey. It was this event that confirmed the Association had matured from a radical campaign to a public institution.
