Comments | This trough was originally erected, as MDFCTA number [0847], in July 1882 in Fair Street, Southwark opposite the Queen Elizabeth School. It was the gift of Mrs C.K.Kingsley as a memorial to the late Rev. Canon Charles Kingsley. It was removed in July 1896 (and replaced by an 18ft trough) and re-erected in February 1897, as MDFCTA number [1345], in Holland Street. There is some confusion in the MDFCTA records whether this trough is type 1c or 1d but it definitely lacks a fountain head. The phrase "THOU LORD SHALT SAVE BOTH MAN AND BEAST" is from Psalm 36 verse 6. |
