CommentsThis fountain was originally installed in 1885 in York Road, Islington near the then cattle market from funds collected by St George's Tufnell Park Band of Mercy. In 1902 it was removed by the Borough of Islington because the fountain was being misused by “mischievous” school-children. Islington refused to re-install the fountain anywhere else in the borough and eventually, in October 1906, the MDFCTA found a new home for it on the platform of Stepney railway station. This is one of several Design-44 drinking fountains.
